If you want some friendly advice for solving today’s Connections puzzle, you are in the right place. Today’s puzzle was quite frustrating for me specifically, although it may not be for you. That is the beauty and sometimes pain of each daily puzzle, as what makes perfect sense to one person may not to your friend. Use the following hints that came from my frustration to help you solve the puzzle without that same feeling.
If you want to solve another puzzle after this one, you should try the daily Mini Crossword puzzle. I find it delightful as while I may not have time to solve a full-fledged traditional crossword puzzle, I do have time to sit down and solve a 5×5 mini version of one. It is a nice way to unwind at the end of the day, or during a break when I want to forget about the challenges of customer service.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
OCTOBER 29 #506
Coming up with hints for this puzzle was somewhat challenging, as knowing the categories may not remove what was frustrating about today’s puzzle. However, they will still steer you in the right direction, and if you are not certain of the answers, you can always keep scrolling until you come to the spoiler section for that category. That being said, here are four category hints to get you started.
- One category is about words used to describe a highly sought out item
- One category is about various groups of people that might work in a specialized field
- One category is about words all used in the same famous piece of media
- One category is about four words that all can come before a single word in a phrase – the single word has something to do with geometry

This category is one of the reasons why today’s puzzle was so challenging for me, as while I am well aware of words used to describe collectible objects, there are actually 5 words that all make sense here, and I guessed nearly every combination of them. PERFECT was the 5th word that made it quite difficult to narrow down. Nearly every time it said “one away,” informing me that at least 3 of the words were correct and that there was a pretender in the mix, but I had no idea which one it was.

RESIDENT |
This one I got right away, as I was looking between INTERN, FELLOW, and RESIDENT. I knew that there are ATTENDING personnel in various job settings as well, but I was not entirely sure that that’s what this category was asking for. I thought it was more about student roles in job positions. However, once I saw that it was particularly about medical roles, it made a lot more sense, and it turned out my guess was correct. If only the same had been true of the previous category.

ROMAN |
For various personal reasons, I actually loathe Shakespeare. Not because I was forced to read it or because I couldn’t understand it, but for my own completely reasonable opinions. I have been told that I am a bit too dramatic about it, and for the record, I have seen a lot of his plays live, but either way, I was not happy when I saw the category name. I wasted too many guesses on the yellow category to finish this one anyway, so I happily did not have to spend too much time dwelling on it.

TIMES |
TOWN |
I originally thought that TOWN, COUNTRYMAN, and ROMAN might go together. That would have been good, seeing as 2 of those words were actually paired together, but I never really considered those words again. PERFECT I had elsewhere, and I had looked for other “fonts” to go with TIMES but did not see any. This one would be hard to spot, especially with POCKET being in the mix as I do not think I have used it in that context with “square” before.
