Tom Holland was recently on the Men’s Wellness/Mental Health Rich Roll Podcast, and one of the main themes from the podcast was “launching a second career” and how he’s “more than [just] ‘Spider-Man’”—and dude wasn’t kidding. While “Spider-Man 4” is definitely in the works, the actor is starting to look at the next phase of his career, and it seems like it’s about to begin with Christopher Nolan’s next film.
With Matt Damon already cast, all the trades report that Tom Holland is also joining the cast in a starring role. Whether it’s Damon as the lead or Holland as the lead is unclear—much like everything about the film (though Deadline says he’s co-starring)

Nolan is notoriously secretive, and the entire project is under wraps. The project is rumored to start shooting in early 2025, and it already has an IMAX release date of July 17, 2026, right in the heart of the summer like most Nolan movies.
Universal is once again handling this one, naturally, after the bungled release of “Tenet”—or at least what Nolan perceived as the bungled release—meant he parted ways with Warner Bros. and then brought his next project, the Academy-Award-winning “Oppenheimer” to Uni.
The film is rumored to be a father-son story set sometime in the future, but whether that’s far future and sci-fi or near future and something else is also uncertain.
Holland has a “Spider-Man 4” film brewing, and the conventional wisdom was that it would be released in July 2026, Sony’s mystery release date slot.
However, Nolan’s movie with Holland, also in July 2026, could pose a problem for both studios depending on how much of a lead Holland is in Universal’s movie. No studio wants its star to promote two different major movies within two to three weeks of each other, and it would be thought to cannibalize its star power draw for audiences.

That said, Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars” movie, currently dated for December 2026, doesn’t look like it’s happening anytime soon, so maybe Sony could take that slot and release “Spider-Man 4” near Christmas as they did with the nearly $2 billion grossing “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
Of course, this is potentially premature speculation. We don’t know yet, and “Spider-Man 4” does not yet have an official release date, but hey, December wouldn’t surprise us given this news. We’ll let you know when we have it.
