Wallabies cop SIXTEEN fails, veteran SAVAGED in milestone match

Good grief.

The Wallabies find themselves back at square one, squandering a 17-point lead in the 30th minute to lose 67-27 against Los Pumas in Santa Fe, conceding the most number of points EVER in a test match.

It was a brutal comedown for Joe Schmidt’s men and the results were well reflected in the votes cast by The Roar‘s audience this week, with SIXTEEN fail marks handed out.

Only seven players managed an average score of 5 or higher, all of them in the starting forward pack. The best performer – by quite some margin – was Angus Bell, who picked up an average score of 6.73 and a most common rating of 7. Only three other players – Matt Faessler, Taniela Tupou and Rob Valetini – managed to come close, with all three managing a most common rating of 6.

However, the backline and the bench saw the worst scores we’ve seen so far in 2024 – with eight players achieving an average of under 4, while seven players achieved a most common rating of 4 or lower.

At the bottom, in his milestone match, was 139-test veteran James Slipper, who picked up the worst numbers of the entire year so far across all Wallaby performances – the worst single average of the year at 2.74, and stunningly, achieved the lowest most common rating possible on the scale, with 28% of voters awarding him a 1.

Above him, Marika Korobiete finished with an average of 3.06, while fellow reserve prop Allan Alaalatoa and reserve loose forward Langi Gleeson both finished with an average of 3.09.

It makes for grim, grim reading, especially when taking into consideration that the best average score off the bench was Tate McDermott with an ugly 4.40.
