GOOD Morning Britain host Richard Madeley has addressed his shoplifting arrest live on air.
During a segment on Thursday’s show, the ITV anchor admitted “it’s easy to forget to pay for things.”
Former This Morning host Richard, 68, was arrested for allegedly shoplifting back in 1994.
He was pulled up for supposedly failing to pay for goods from a local Tesco, including a bottle of champagne.
Richard was then taken to court but was cleared of all charges after claiming he’d had a freak memory lapse.
On Thursday’s Good Morning Britain, he spoke openly about the mishap during a debate about security guards.
It has been proposed that security guards and store detectives could be given increased powers to handcuff people suspected of trying to steal items.
Discussing the issue, GMB host Kate Garraway, 57, said: “There’s such a scurge of shoplifting and it’s causing so many problems for shop keepers and for everybody else.
“So let us know what you think.”
After reading out some comments from viewers, Richard addressed his own experiences.
He said: “I know for my own experience back in 1990 its very easy to forget to pay for stuff.”
He added: “Woah, just a minute a store detective would you really accept a store detective putting you in cuffs?
“I would say ‘woah it’s an honest mistake let me explain’
“There’s a lot to consider.”
Back in April, he was also involved in an awkward moment on the ITV daytime series during another shoplifting discussion.

This isn’t the only year has happened on GMB, when viewers previously laughed about a previous shoplifting segment back in June of 2022.
Richard has been candid in opening up on his private life of late.
He recently told how he sleeps in a different bed from his wife Judy Finnigan in a frank marriage admission.
