Netflix’s Outer Banks predominantly takes place in the titular string of barrier islands near the coast of North Carolina and southeastern Virginia, with the plot partially focused on the wealth and social disparities between the people living there. Season 4 Part 1 of the series debuted on the streaming giant on Thursday, October 10. And now, fans want to know whether this season was filmed on location.

Like the previous seasons, the fourth one was primarily filmed in and around Charleston, South Carolina, even though a significant portion of the plot takes place on the OBX. Production reportedly began in Charleston in June 2023. In July, filming stopped due to the 2023 Hollywood strike and later resumed in November. Production for the entire fourth season concluded in June 2024.

Episode 1
Filming for the 7-Eleven scene in the series premiere takes place in Crosby’s Fish & Shrimp Company in Charleston. The Maybank property, also in Charleston, serves as Poguelandia 2.0. The Enduro dirt bike race was shot at the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area at North Carolina’s Kure Beach. Production for scenes involving the exterior of Blackstone Manor on Goat Island took place in Sandfly Bluff in Charleston. (via Tudum)
Episode 2
The interior scenes of the Blackstone Manor were shot at the Admiral’s House and Quarter’s G in North Charleston. The location of the house of Pope’s uncle Roger is Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The real-life Bowens Island Restaurant serves as Rockfish Bar, whereas yachts featured in the series, including Hollis’ boat, can be found at Toler’s Cove Marina in Mount Pleasant. Meanwhile, May Forest State Park in Charleston serves as the hospital this season.
Episode 3
Mount Pleasant is also the filming location for Rafe’s new house, and the location of the Islamic Center is in North Charleston. As for Sofia’s home, its real location is also Charleston.
Episode 4
The real location of Mr. Sunn’s house is Johns Island, South Carolina.
Episode 5
The scene in which John B. finds his ancestor’s grave at the Charleston church cemetery was filmed at the city’s Circular Congregational Church and its cemetery. The inside of the Unitarian Church in Charleston served as the interior of the Charleston church in the episode. Scenes depicting the catacombs and crypts were shot at Charleston’s Old Exchange Building (Provost).
