Meeting your partner’s parents for the first time can be a nerve-wracking experience, but one family has found an inventive way to break the ice.
Kaitlyn Olesinski, a creator known as @kaitlynolesinski on TikTok, took to social media on September 2 to share how her mom extended a warm welcome to her boyfriend. The mom’s hilarious way of doing so has left viewers online in hysterics.
She was captured playing an old tune on a clarinet to Olesinski’s beau, and her sunset performance that is brimming with comic timing has been viewed more than 3.4 million times to date.
Viewers were able to see Toronto-based Olesinski’s mom and boyfriend sitting in front of a lake at sunset. While the creator’s boyfriend enjoyed a drink, her mom began playing “Greensleeves,” a traditional English folk song, for him on her wind instrument.
Although he initially kept a straight face, Olesinski’s boyfriend was filmed fighting back laughter by the end of the short clip. Her mother also showed off a lighthearted smile after finishing the tune.
An overlaid text on the video read: “POV: [Point of view] Your boyfriend meets your mom for the first time.”
After being shared online the video quickly went viral and has so far amassed more than 535,000 likes. Some of the clip’s viewers have left amused comments that poke fun at the unique first encounter.
“Bruh, I would be stumbling for words trying to be respectful like, ‘Yes ma’am thank you for playing the clarinet for us,'” one viewer, @cookingforher, said. Their comment has been liked more than 29,500 times.
Another, @buttonshea, added: “I knew playing the recorder in school was for something! Thank you for the idea for when my sons bring home their new [girlfriends]! Hahaha.”
“I apologize in advance to my son…This is a pretty accurate representation of what he can expect for me in the near future,” a third user, @figgysawdust, shared.
Another, @sothisisit78, added: “The ambience the setting the sky everything is just perfect so beautiful!”
“The music. The scenery. The fire. The drink. Vibes. Immaculate,” another viewer, who goes by Mike Oxlong on the platform, said.
The post had been captioned: “Still going strong.”
