DC fans are now just hours away from the first trailer for James Gunn’s Superman dropping online. While the majority of the fan base cannot wait to see the first official trailer for the movie, leave it to Zack Snyder’s dedicated cronies to ruin a good thing, as they are (once again) calling for Henry Cavill‘s return. David Corenswet is the DC Universe’s new Clark Kent, starring alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and will appear in Superman with a long future in the new DCU. But, before that, Henry Cavill was the Man of Steel of Zack Snyder’s DCEU. Like many Snyder movies, the DCEU was notably darker, and altered many aspects of its characters’ comic book story lines. Despite the changes, Snyder developed a die-hard fan base, and they’re incredibly vocal about their love for Cavill’s Superman.

fans taking to the virtual streets to voice their displeasure about the new Superman trailer. To Snyder’s fans, Cavill was the perfect Superman, and he’s now their only choice for the Man of Steel going forward. “If you’re not interested in the Superman trailer tomorrow or if you want Henry Cavill to return then support the #HenryCavillSuperman trend,” wrote @SnyderQueen_. Countless Snyder fans have rallied behind the post, and shared their own hardcore opinions about Cavill being the best Superman.
Henry Cavill first played Clark Kent in Man of Steel in 2013, and returned for Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Justice League, and The Snyder Cut. None of the films were lauded as all-time comic book movie greats, but that hasn’t stopped the Snyder cult from rallying behind them. “#HenryCavillSuperman is my Superman until his story finishes and not before,” said @batdan350. Some have targeted their opinions towards the first teaser footage of Superman. @RafIsGaming commented “The Superman role was made for Henry Cavill. Anyone else will have a very difficult time fitting in those shoes…or cape.”
Henry Cavill Was Great, But Snyder Fans Need to Move On
As much as Zack Snyder’s DCEU ebbed and flowed over the years in terms of quality, it’s hard to argue against Henry Cavill being a great Superman. He was physically imposing in the costume, nailed the character’s mission to spread hope, while also adding a tortured layer from the character’s past. But, it’s time to move on.

The likelihood of Henry Cavill ever returning to the role is practically zero. Not only has DC Studios moved on with David Corenswet, but Cavill himself has an absolutely packed slate, and couldn’t possibly fit in playing the Man of Steel again. Cavill is currently hard at work shooting the live-action Voltron movie, which recently entered production. After that, he has Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot, which will see him pick up a sword once again after his departure from The Witcher. If that wasn’t enough, Henry Cavill will star in and produce a new Warhammer 40k project. Details about the Warhammer project are very scarce, but fans cannot wait to see Cavill in the Space Marine armor (unless he plays a random Tyranid).
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first movie in Warner Bros.’ rebooted DC Universe to center around the titular comic book hero. It introduces a new version of the Man of Steel after Henry Cavill’s departure from the role, honoring the character’s roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”
